REPOR: DOLPHINS' CAPERS BECOMES HIGHEST PAID ASSISTANT

Full Description:

Dom Capers' time as a head coach was considered to be largely a failure, but his success as a coordinator has been well documented.

ESPN has reported that Capers will become the highest paid assistant in the league, signing with the Miami Dolphins for a reported $8.1 million over the next three years. Next season he'll earn as much as fellow defensive coordinator Gregg Williams in Washington, but Capers will receive raises of at least $100,000 per year in 2008 and 2009.

Capers' current deal with the Dolphins was scheduled to expire this week.

As far as their search for a new head coach is concerned, the Dolphins are considering New York Jets offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer, the 33-year-old son of San Diego Chargers head coach Marty Schottenheimer.

Vikings defensive coordinator Mike Tomlin and former Atlanta Falcons head coach Jim Mora are also in the running for the head-coaching job.

"I haven't heard from those guys yet," Tomlin told the Miami Herald. "I haven't talked to those guys about any kind of second interview."

Georgia Tech coach Chan Gailey and San Diego Chargers offensive coordinator Cam Cameron might also interview for the job.
